Live with intention.
Origins...
I'm a Colorado native and first-generation Vietnamese-American. Thanks to some weird genes, I look about ten years younger than I actually am. I've been an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) since 2012 and have been involved with a local nonprofit, Venturing Emergency Rescue Team, Crew 911 (branch of Boy Scouts) since my teen years.
My past and present have been rather jagged and painfully dreadful. I grew up in a rather dysfunctional family that led to divorce and constant verbal abuse through a child custody battle. To be honest, I had no childhood. I grew up as the eldest child so all the expectations of lost dreams and lost opportunities that my parents had were shoved into my face. Getting anything less than perfect scores was absolutely unsatisfactory. I had to interpret for my mother constantly. My father was....always unpleasant. On the bright side, my Vietnamese is better than most Vietnamese-American born. Though my literacy in it isn't that great--so karaoke is my friend in learning to read and spell the language.
Growing up was hard. My family dumpster-dived and foraged for edible plants in order to get by because at the time there were limits to how many times you can go to a food bank. It's not easy for a single mother to care for two daughters. So kudos to my mother for her resilience in putting up with me.
I was bullied in school, pushed into ditches, harassed by kids, got called a "fat Chinese girl," cornered by mean girls, and shoved into the pavement. I've wet and pooped my pants from fear. Have had supposed friends who abandoned me in my times of need. Have had professors tell me that I would never amount to anything or that I should stop wasting everybody's time and just drop out of college. Falsely arrested and spent two weeks in jail by a corrupt judicial system. The military rejected me because I was fat. Yeah...
I dropped out of college eventually to work extra jobs to get my sister through school. In 2020, I worked 8 different jobs in order to support my mother, sister, and dogs.

I currently have four dogs, Tobi, Momo, Yoshi, and Fuji. Two of my dogs actually saved my life in 2014 when I was about to commit suicide due to severe depression. Now they all keep me from falling off the edge and into the abyss. I also have chickens now too, to help me manage my inner demons. Do I still have depression? Absolutely. However, I am fighting it. I have also been diagnosed with osteoporosis and osteopenia, two benign tumors (let's keep them that way). Every time I survive an obstacle--I'm pretty certain that I've gained experience points that have leveled me up.
I am in no way perfect, I am human. I have learned and still learning to accept and acknowledge the obstacles and hardships that I have faced and will continue to face. These bad cards that I have been dealt are experiences that will help me become stronger. A sort of yin-yang concept. In order to achieve that balance, you need both light and dark. To be successful you must first fail.
Keep surviving and level up you,
Bonnie Tuyet Mai NguyenThe mission for this coaching business that I've started is really multi-tiered. One of which is to heal, grow, and reach a better version of myself. The other main goal is to really promote preventive/lifestyle medicine by helping people find their own solutions to becoming a better, healthier version of themselves. By doing this, I can help alleviate the amount of strain that is placed on the healthcare system constantly.
I want to keep learning as much as I can in various holistic practices so that I can eventually share all that knowledge with as many people as I can. One day, I hope that my dojo can offer more holistic, wholesome, and fun practices with the community. I want this dojo to be a place of inner training and learning for everyone alike.
Yes, that's me >
I was fortunate enough to do the graphics for the Korean Academy of Taekwondo fundraiser calendar. And I got to model for it also. I was a blue belt before I had to disappear. However, I plan on continuing my journey again and reach black belt and beyond.
